My first contact with…

It’s been two weeks since I started at Apple Developer Academy — actually, it seems like more time, because it’s very intense in a good way, of course.

This week we needed to start to know Apple’s Playground and do some project about ourselves. I like to learn by doing something, so first I tried to understand the examples we had and tried to do something of my own.

So I had my first contact with game development. This is something I want to study a lot at ADA, since we will learn how to develop apps, I think I’ll try to “kill two birds with one stone”.

This first experience was very raw, but I really liked it a lot. It was very nice to try to think out of the box I’m used to, and I think for my first (actually two games) it was really nice. Of course, they were simple: the first Whac-A-Mole and the second a memory game. But the examples were really nice to see more things that we can do.

But I think the best part was to be able to know the other students and try to help and be helped. The exercise was individual and we could call the mentors to help us, but we had “island” channels at discord and we could enter in one with people already, or enter in one alone, but at any moment someone could appear.

At first, I was very shy, so I entered an empty one, but then some people called me to enter in one they were and the next days I would just enter the island they were. Some day someone entered to see our projects and show us his, and it was very helpful to give us more idea and vice versa.

I’m still very shy to start to talk with someone I don’t know much, but I think it’s one of the best things that ADA stimulates us to know each other, and I can’t wait the next week, because I think the next project will be in group that probably they’ll choose, so I’ll have more opportunity to know more fantastic people.

For the future, besides learning more about game development, I really want to learn about storytelling and design.
